8E is the model number for 1963 and '64 trucks. An E7 is a 1/2 ton truck with V8 engine. Yours is a '63, but the last two numbers have nothing to do with it. It's just a coincidence. 8E7 starting serial number is 18901, and they just go up from there. The numbers arrowed to in the picture of the parts shown in the group parts pic are GENERIC picture part I.D. Staad pro examples pdf. numbers, and mean nothing except a reference number to find the correct group (i.e. Water Pumps) of Studebaker Part Numbers that will contain your actual part Number for your particular year, model/engine, and body type.

Studebaker Part Numbers also have meaning as well, here are the number sequences & examples:

The significant digits are a constant, and are in RED.

Basically, the lower the number in a series or group of numbers is the older part: 184556 is a 1934 Dictator Water Pump.

Compare that to 308958 a '55 T/L Lens or 1564580, a 1965-'66 Lark Type Rochester Carb. Kit.

Keep in mind however that if a 188645 Commander Big 6 valve spring was created for a 1936 model which it was, and happens to be needed on a 1963 & '64 Avanti engine, it's number remains the same! [:0]

Also remember that it IS possible to have car parts and their #'s on a Truck i.e. the Lark parts on a Champ cab, or Truck parts on a car like the H.D. Truck engine valves used on Super Hawk/Lark and Avanti.

Parts peculiar to '57-'58 Packard are all Studebaker numbers, EXCEPT the re-used Packard parts like '56 Packard Clipper tail light lenses, Detroit Packard gauges etc. would carry their original PACKARD number.

Mercedes Benz part numbers were unchanged from their original Mercedes number, unless they were used on a Studebaker such as Avanti door locks, or Lark Skytops then they would receive a Studebaker Body part Number like 1358934.

The W after a number indicates Chrome plate
The V after a number indicates Gold plate
The VP after a number indicates Gold plate & Paint
The WP after a number indicates Chrome plate & Paint, i.e. a TT Emblem The P equals Prime.

Some parts have an X and a number following it, at the end of a regular Studebaker Drawing numbered 6 or 7 digit part number.

This CAN be, as in the case of interior trim parts, door panels, arm rests, consoles, seat covers for the COLOR!

An X with a short number following the part number CAN also be a code for the length, used on Weatherstrips: 298583X5 is not 5 inches, but it does indicate the length.

How to tell a LEFT part from a RIGHT; they start numerically with Right: 1350256 (even), then Left: 1350257 (Odd). Mirror image, (opposite) parts are always R=Even, L=Odd.

Hardware, nuts, bolts, screws, clips etc. that are non Studebaker Engr. Drawing numbered, universal Automotive standard parts called 'Standards' have their own separate set of numbers like: G107828 or 1921X2.

Casting Numbers as raised numbers on cast parts, rarely match a Part Number, and were intended only to identify like parts before final machining and to connect them to their respective Studebaker Drawings. Therefore they will never be listed in a Parts Catalog.

Although some parts were part number tagged when received by the Main Parts Depot, Plant 8 in South Bend, or rubber stamped, MOST all identific.(?)
